ANGELA BARKMAN is the principal designer and owner behind the creations of Urban Habitat. After graduating from the prestigious Mount Royal University Interior Design program in 1996, she started her career in the flooring and drapery industry.  After four years of gaining knowledge in both of these sects of the design world, it was time to move into the architectural business. She was hired at Studio 101 Design Group in Vernon, BC who gave her the opportunities to grow as a designer and work on many large residential and commercial projects.

In 2005 Angela decided it was the right time to branch out on her own and Urban Habitat was born. A very extensive and diverse portfolio of Interior Design work was created over the years, and she met many amazing trades people and skilled craftsman through her work.  It was perhaps these people that inspired the next stages in a design career!

For the last 10 years her design career has shifted to more elemental work by adding the actual building of her designs to her portfolio! A northern farm girl through and through, there was a driving need to not only imagine the projects but to get the hands on experience of bringing creations to life. There isn't much that she won't tackle from large scale furniture builds to making books by hand.  Every project is viewed as a privilege and an education, especially if she can work with her dad on larger builds!

Angela resides in Leduc, Alberta with her two kids Ella and Tanner and her Arabian horse Dexter! She is an active member in the community, volunteering as a project leader with a light horse 4H group. A definite #horseshowmom!  Besides creating anything that might inspire her, Angela also loves to travel, dabbles in photography and is a self proclaimed Scotch aficionado
